‘American Idol’ wrapped up its season finale with an unforeseen victory. Candice Glover, known as Candy Girl, won the season 12 ‘American Idol’ on May 16.

The 23-year-old from St. Helena Island, South Carolina, saw her dream come true after three years of hard work and perseverance. She had an ‘Idol’ tryout in season nine, but it just wasn’t meant to be at that time. And now, she is the first female winner of this popular TV show since Jordin Sparks in 2007.
Glover and Kree Harrison performed together as a duet of The 5th Dimension’s “One Less Bell to Answer,” before the final result was disclosed. They hugged each other on stage, then Glover teamed up with Jennifer Hudson on Natalie Cole’s “Inseparable”. A long series of performances followed: Jessie J and Angie Miller (“Domino”), Adam Lambert and Angie Miller (“Titanium”), The Band Perry and Janelle Arthur (“Done”), Emeli Sandé and Amber Holcomb (“Next to Me”) and Urban with Kree Harrison, Randy Jackson and Travis Barker (“Where the Blacktop Ends”).

Aretha Franklin sang with the female finalists via satellite “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “I Never Loved a Man,” “Respect” and “Think,” Mariah Carey also hit the stage to give a quick run through of her hits, while J-Lo performed ‘Live It Up” alongside Pitbull. And when Glover was announced the big winner of the singing contest, she burst into tears and sang her new single, “I Am Beautiful,” while confetti rained down on the stage.
