A Blessing of the Animals will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Orphan Pet Oasis, 17-825 N. Indian Ave. All pets are welcome. Cost is $20 per pet.

Tony Cardenas advocates against keeping the animals in enclosures at the L.A. Zoo, which has already spent $10 million on a new exhibit, and suggests keeping them at a sanctuary instead. Los Angeles City Councilman Tony Cardenas announced Tuesday that he would ask the City Council to outlaw the keeping of elephants at the Los Angeles Zoo and instead establish a city sanctuary for pachyderms.

A frantic search for a missing camel and his sidekick, a Shetland pony, ended in hugs Tuesday after the animals were found grazing a few miles from the Capital of Texas Zoo in Cedar Creek. They had disappeared last week from the Bastrop County zoo.
