Corey Taylor, the singer of Slipknot, declared in an interview for Kerrang Magazine that Download’s organizers have made them an offer to headline UK’s number one rock festival that will return next June to Donington Park, which is the spiritual home to pure and unadulterated heavy rock music since 1980. Past headliners included Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden and Kiss and the organisers promised some big names to thrill crowds at next year’s fest that will be held from Friday June 12th to Sunday 14th. It is said that more than 100 bands will take part in the event, with three stages for fans to enjoy but the Slipknot’s vocalist said that they are still thinking if they should take the offer or not because the band will have a very busy schedule for 2009.
Slipknot - which features DJ Sid Wilson, drummer Joey Jordison, Gray, percussionist Chris Fehn Root , sampler Craig Jones - 133, percussionist M. Shawn Crahan - Clown, guitarist Mick Thomson and Taylor – will be extremely busy next year as “2009 is the 10 year anniversary of the world’s first taste of this band,” lead singer Corey Taylor said in a statement, referring to the 1999 Slipknot album. And, in order to celebrate their success, they’ll hit the road for a tour in U.S. from January 23 to January 31, from February 2 to February 28 and from March 1 to March 11 with “a couple of great bands and the same ferocity with which we attack life” said Taylor.
It seems that Slipknot music mix of alternative metal and neo-shock rock and rap-metal made this band extremely popular in UK and US, in fact, the most popular band in the nu-metal explosion of the late ’90s. Songs like “Sulfur” and “Psychosocial”, “Vendetta” and “All Hope Is Gone” from their latest album made global sensation amongst cathartic rock fans. Slipknot albums reveal an intense preoccupation with darkness and nihilism. Besides, in an interview on May 13, singer Corey Taylor described “All Hope Is Gone” as a “dark cross” between the band’s two most recent studio albums, “Iowa” and “Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)”.
Corey, the mastermind of the band, declared in an interview for The Daily Record that the recent success of the band took them by surprise. “It’s unbelievable that we’re Number One in tops in the U.S. I didn’t expected it, at least not so soon. There were moments when I asked myself if it’s really happening or it’s just my imagination.”
Corey Taylor who appeared several times on the cover of Kerrang Magazine said that the band will take a decision soon and that they hope their music will rock the Download’s stage next year.
