It was a surprising line up of the bottom three this week in American Idol. Many have predicted that either Matt Giraud or Allison Iraheta will be the least voted but they only got one right.
Nominated for potential elimination were Matt Giraud, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert, after Ryan Seacrest announced that Allison Iraheta and Danny Gokey received the most votes this week. The nomination of Adam in the bottom three came undoubtedly as a shock for many who have seen Lambert as the favorite. But it was soft-spoken soul singer Matt Giraud who was eliminated, leaving four talented people left standing. This was his second go round at last place as a few weeks ago, the judges exercised their one time ’save’ to keep him in the competition.
At the top of the show, Simon Cowell said that after watching all of the performances again, it is clear that all five did very well on Tuesday night - leaving the competition ‘wide open’. The genre was Rat Pack songs made famous by crooners Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.
The result night on Wednesday, April 29 invited several guest performers including Jamie Foxx that became the mentor of the week. Others were Natalie Cole and former season five “Idol” champion Taylor Hicks.
Then, Ryan Seacrest announced that there were 47 million votes cast on the Rat Pack night. Then later he started dividing the top 5 into two groups. Matt was grouped with Kris and Adam on right side of the stage while Allison and Danny Gokey stood on the left side. The host then announced that Matt’s group belonged to the bottom three.
Kris was first to be declared safe, leaving Adam and Matt for the climax toward the end of the show. Last week, Matt Giraud earned enough viewer votes on his own to stay in the competition, but after singing “My Funny Valentine” on Tuesday, his luck ran out. Seacrest finally said that Matt, who was saved by judges two weeks prior, is not in the top 4. After a nationwide vote, the 23-year-old piano player from Kalamazoo, Michigan became the ninth finalist eliminated on the FOX reality show American Idol.
“I’ll definitely remember being the cat with nine lives,” Matt said. “This is definitely not the last time you’ll see me,” he promised before launching a reprise of the performance that sent him packing.
Therefore, the American Idol Top 4 Finalists that will be performing for American Idol season 8 on May 5 2009 Rock Theme are: Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert.
