Irish soul singer, Laura Izibor, is set to support influential American soul singer and producer, John Legend on the UK leg of his European tour next month.
The talented 21-year-old has already had success by winning the Hope for 2006 award at the Meteor Music Awards (Ireland’s equivalent of the Brits/Grammies) and having her songs featured on the soundtracks of major movies such as P.S. I Love You and Nanny Diaries as well as successful TV hospital drama, “Grey’s Anatomy”. 2009 is tipped to be her breakthrough year thanks to positive reviews of her musical output from the international press and her much-hyped debut album, Let the Truth be Told, set to be released in March.
Laura Izibor, looks set to go big in both the UK and Stateside following an excellent reception to her music which has been featured on the soundtracks of P.S. I Love You and TV’s “The Hills” and “Grey’s Anatomy”. Seven caught up with Izibor while she was in New York to discuss her career so far and the year ahead.
Selected by Rolling Stone as an “Artist to Watch”, Izibor was one of six musicians the major US music publication thought defined the music of 2008. Over the past few years, she has opened shows in Ireland for soul legends such as the late James Brown, Al Green and the likes of Angie Stone and The Roots. Recently, she even supported The Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin, who chose Izibor from a number of talented singers to support her in New York last December.
Now, it seems that Aretha Franklin’s not the only major artist backing Izibor to make it big; John Legend, chose her to support him on the European leg of his Evolver World Tour.
