Selena Gomez Rescheduled Concerts Due To Strained Vocal Cords

The Disney favorite Selena Gomez still hasn’t recovered her voice. According to the Columbus Dispatch, fair officials released a statement saying that the singer is suffering from strained vocal cords and “has been ordered by her physician to rest her voice and not travel for a week.” And so, the teen singer had to postpone her performance at the Ohio State Fair on Thursday.
On Monday night, Selena stopped by late-night TV show “Lopez Tonight.” But being unable to speak, she used a Dynavox voice-enhancing machine without losing her sense of humor and tried to joke on the issue: “I’m sorry. I’m so upset, but at least it’s funny, right?” The star told George Lopez, about her friendship with fellow teen star Justin Bieber: “I love him. He’s like my little brother. I like to say his name onstage because if I’m performing badly, I say his name and the audience will cheer.” She even told him that at one show, Bieber asked her to take off her heels to make up for the height difference: “[I told him] ‘No, I’m not going to take off my heels. You’re short, embrace it.’ He’s getting taller, though.”
The 18-year-old singer also used the device to say how horrified she was to find three grey hairs on her head: “I freaked out. I ran to my mom and asked her what I should do. I asked if I should pluck them and she said I shouldn’t - it’s bad luck.” As a sign of appreciation for not scrapping her appearance on his show, Lopez gave Selena a “Wizard of Oz” gift basket as the film is her favorite.
Unfortunately, the “Wizards of Waverly Place” star could not use the same technology to perform at the scheduled shows. With a Dynavox voice-enhancing machine one cannot sing, so Selena had to cancel. ‘I am extremely disappointed to cancel these shows. My fans mean the world to me and I was so excited to perform for them,’ the singer said.
A full refund will be given to those who purchased their tickets directly from the Delaware State Fair and the Allstar Weekend performed a free concert in her place on Wednesday July 28 in the Wilmington Trust Grandstand. The good news is that she will honor tickets on November? 6 at the Celeste Center at the Ohio Expo Center and that she hasn’t yet rescheduled the shows on July 31 (in New York) and August 1 (in Connecticut).

Taylor Swift’s Next Album Due October 25

American pop singer Taylor Swift announced that her next album, called Speak Now, will be released on October 25. During a live chat on ustream.tv, the songstress spoke to her 58,000 viewers about the album, about the singles, about what this new album means to her.
She said that this album, which was written exclusively by her, is about her life experiences from the past year.”Each song is a different confession to a different person, and I’m very excited for you to hear them. I’ve been working on it for two years, so ever since we put out Fearless, I’ve been writing for this record and sort of conceptualizing it and putting it together in my head and sort of figuring out what I want it to be,” she added. “I like to take a lot of time in between albums to work up the next one and see what it is.”
Taylor Swift said that she actually wrote everything she lived.”For me, I write everything that I live […] and my only option is to write about what I’ve been through and what I’ve lived, so thankfully, in the past two years, I’ve experienced a lot of things that I’ve been dying to write about and a lot of things that I wanted to say in the moment that I didn’t,” she explained.
The singer also spoke about some of the tracks included in the album. “Mine,” for instance, which is about the songstress’s “tendency to run from love” is due to be released sooner, in mid-August. “The song is sort of about finding the exception to that [the pattern of running away when it comes time to fall in love and stay in a relationship] and finding someone who would make you believe in love and realize that it could work out, because I’m never ever going to go past hoping that love works out.”
Taylor gave some good news during the live chat, saying that the song called “Sparks Fly” will be included on the forthcoming album because her fans really showed interest in it, and that she will hit the road for a new tour after she releases the album. But until October, the singer will be very busy in her studio, recording the last songs. “I’ve been writing it for the last two years, so this summer it’s all about the finishing touches and getting in there in the studio and recording the last couple songs,” she said.

After making a major comeback with her album Circus and massive tour, Britney Spears decided to do other things as well, not just music. The singer justifies the brake she took in her musical career by creating a new clothing and accessories line especially for schoolgirls. Spears has been the face of the brand for a while now, for almost three years, but this is the first time she’s stepped behind the camera for a new role: to design her own looks. The clothing line created in collaboration with Iconix Brand Group is called Britney for Candie’s and American girls can choose and buy what they want by simply visiting KOHL shops as the line has hit the shelves yesterday, July 1. The collection ranges from $14.00-$78.00.
“Designing was really fun and for me it was a new way of expressing my creativity and I really wanted to do something special for my fans and for me as well,” Britney said according to Reuters. The pop diva also spoke to InStyle.com about the inspiration for her new line, saying, 2I used a lot of studs and lace, because I wanted to make the clothes cool and edgy yet girly…My personal style is mix of comfortable and flirty.”
In designing the line, the 28-year-old singer searched for inspiration in her favorite movies and songs. The line includes casual clothes for day use and elegant clothes for night use, from jeans to black dresses, all completed with a line of accessories. Inspired by the beat from her hit single “Piece of Me” from 2007’s “Blackout” album, Spears introduced in her line some special pieces, such as a shiny black trench, fold-over booties, sparkly leggings and super low-rise jeans straight out of 2000. “I love the black trench coat,” Britney said. “You can wear it over your outfit or as a dress. There’s also an amazing studded skirt that’s perfect for going out.”
“I wanted to make the clothes cool and edgy yet girly,” the pop icon added. “I also love jeans, so I had to make sure there were some great pairs in the collection.” Britney Spears also said that because her “personal style is mix of comfortable and flirty, I love cute little dresses but I also love comfy sweaters and jeans.”
The “Britney for Candie’s” limited edition collection will be supported with a national marketing campaign including a television commercial, print ad, outdoor, online as well as being integrated into Kohl’s back-to-school marketing initiatives. The Rascals Reunited For Second Time In 40 Years

Soul Rock band The Rascals reunited for the second time in the last 40 years to honor Steven Van Zandt, E-Street band guitarist who inducted The Rascals into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame back in 1997 but also his wife, Maureen. Van Zandt had been trying hard to get the group back together and now finally has all four of the original band members committed to the reunion. The original lineup of – keyboardist Felix Cavaliere, singer Eddie Brigati, guitarist Gene Cornish and drummer Dino Danelli – which became famous for the hit singles “Good Lovin’” and “People Got to Be Free,” gathered last Saturday, April 24th, at the Kristen Ann Carr benefit at New York’s Tribeca Grill.

“We first met around 1980 to discuss reuniting the band and have tried every five years or so. Maureen suggested we give it one more shot and sure enough it took Kristen’s amazing spirit to finally get it done,” Van Zandt said in a statement to Rolling Stone magazine. “Rehearsals have been incredible and of course my hope is they can stay together and finally show the world why they are one of rock & roll history’s greatest bands.”
The Rascals reunited for a show in support of the Kristen Ann Carr fund, which is a group founded in 1993 by Bruce Springsteen’s co-manager Barbara Carr and her husband Dave Marsh to honor their daughter, Kristen, who passed away at the age of 21 from sarcoma. According to livedaily.com, the Kristen Ann Carr Fund supplies grants for cancer research and also established a comprehensive sarcoma laboratory at New York City’s Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and provides sarcoma fellowships in surgery and oncology at the facility. It also supports programs specializing in helping teens and young adults cope with cancer and other serious illnesses: “Improve all aspects of cancer patient life with an emphasis on adolescents and young adults.”
“I speak on behalf of the band when I say all the money offers in the world could not entice the Rascals to reunite,” guitarist Cornish said, “but four phone calls from Stevie and without hesitation we enthusiastically and immediately agreed to both support this wonderful cause and honor Stevie and Maureen.”
This was the first time all four members reunited since the Rascals split in 1970 and the first time the soul legends have performed together since their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

The 2010 Lilith Tour Dates and Line-up Announced

Lilith Fair is a travelling music festival, founded by Canadian musician Sarah McLachlan, Nettwerk Music Group’s Dan Fraser and Terry McBride, and it is entirely dedicated to women because it consists solely of female solo artists and female-led bands that perform for a female audience. The fest took place for only three years, from 1997 to 1999. But in an April 25, 2009 Nettwerk founder Terry McBride has twitted confirming thus that Lilith Fair will be relaunched in 2010. A two-week tour in Britain and Europe has been announced, yet details are still unknown.
Fortunately, the North America tour has been announced. The full list of the 2010 Lilith tour dates has been announced, including all 36 cities that the Live Nation produced festival will hit this summer. The line-up for Lilith Fair has also been announced, yet only some of the singers have revealed their city-by-city performances. There will be 11 artists on each date, with only two consistencies per show: the Lilith Local Talent.

Pitbull To Hit His Biggest U.S. Tour

Sponsored and supported by AEG Live, Pitbull will hit the road at the end of the spring bringing his “Mr. Worldwide’s Carnaval” tour to 19 cities in the U.S. It will be his biggest American tour to date kicking off on May 25th in Denver’s 1stBank Center and running for over a month until it wraps June 28th at Milwaukee Summerfest. Pitbull’s U.S. trek will include additional dates at Six Flags parks in Connecticut, Washington, D.C., New Jersey, Atlanta and Charlotte.
The club, theater and arena shows have an average capacity of 3,400 people and will likely have an opening act to be determined. Until now, no opener has been announced, but keeping with the Carnaval theme, the show will feature Brazilian dancers and a live band. The bilingual rapper will be very busy as he will be touring in between the releases of his new Spanish album, Armando, scheduled for release sometime in June on Mr. 305/Sony Latin, with an English album set to come out in the fall on Mr. 305/Polo Grounds/RCA according to manager Charles Chavez.

Moreover, according to Billboard magazine, Pitbull’s tour will be heavily marketed with consistent imagery across English and Spanish media, and will include heavy street team and club promotion. The average ticket price will be around $34, announced Rebeca Leon, VP of Latin talent for AEG Live/Goldenvoice, the low-ticket prices being a key part of the tour strategy. “He is very much that universal party act,” says Leon. “Because he’s so universal and he plays to so many audiences, it’s very hard to put your arms around it. It’s a blessing but you have to be really savvy.” And this is not all. The rapper also considers of organizing afterparties, in which fans can buy an add-on to their ticket for the chance to party with the “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” singer at a club after the concert.

Black Eyed Peas, John Legend and Alicia Keys Get the Party Started at FIFA World Cup Celebration Concert

Before the top international football teams battle in out on the field for this year’s FIFA World Cup Trophy, Black Eyed Peas, John Legend and Alicia Keys will get the party started at the FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert. A host of South American and African music stars, in addition to appearances by football legends and other celebrities will join them.

“We are thrilled to have a concert of such magnitude and performing talent raise the curtain on the first FIFA World Cup in Africa. It is testament to the universal and unifying power of football and music, and will start the competition off on the right note – of celebration,” FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke said in a statement.
Colombian superstars Juanes and Shakira, Mali’s acclaimed duo Amadou & Mariam, desert blue’s outfit Tinariwen, Malian singer and guitarist Vieux Farka Touré, and Benin’s Angelique Kidjo will also perform live on stage. Other acts include host country South Africa - rock acts BLK JKS and the Parlotones, and folk singer-songwriter Vusi Mahlasela. Other acts will be revealed in the following weeks.
“We believe sports and music transcend cultural, language and geographic barriers, and through the official FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert, we will present the sights and sounds of unity and celebration for an unforgettable, must-see experience,” said Emmy Award-winning producer Kevin Wall, who organized and produced the concert with his company Control Room, which also helped pull off Live Earth 2007.
This is the first time the Cup has been staged in Africa. The concert takes place June 10 at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg’s Soweto Township on the day before the 2010 tournament gets underway. Tickets are priced from 450 rand ($62) to 1,150 rand ($158) and are already on sale. However, if you are not one of the 40,000 fans in the Stadium audience on June 10, you can watch the concert on TV as it will be broadcasted to hundreds of millions worldwide.
More importantly, all net proceeds from the concert will go towards 20 Centers For 2010, the official campaign of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. The purpose is to build 20 centers across Africa that would offer education and healthcare services as well as football training to disadvantaged communities.

Akon Close to Retirement Due to Lady Gaga

You probably haven’t heard much about Akon lately. He was busy with preparing a new album for this year, but this is not what kept him out of sight. The reason of his ‘retirement’ is the pop superstar Lady Gaga who signed to Akon’s KonLive imprint. The Senegalese singer told The Associated Press that “She’s pretty much retired me.” “She was definitely a blessing. I’m glad I believed in her, boy. That goes to show you, if you believe in something strong enough, it will pay off.”

He believed in her, all right, and he became a mogul overnight, thanks to her huge success. After all, this year she has taken home three Brit Awards in London (where she performed a tribute to recently deceased designer Alexander McQueen) and two Grammys (Best Dance Recording for “Poker Face” and Best Electronic/Dance Album for The Fame). “She came at the right moment”, he said. Lady Gaga was initially signed to Def Jam Records, where she was dropped several months later. Then Akon signed her as a free agent as he was finalizing his Kon Live deal with Interscope Records and label head Jimmy Iovine. “And I was like ‘Yo, I want to sign that right there. She needs to be under my umbrella,’” Akon said. “Jimmy was like ‘Yeah, whatever you want. Take her. Let’s get it done.’ And she just blossomed into a super megastar, man.”
Gaga is also one of several artists to be featured on Akon’s next album. Others include Dutch dance DJ-producer Chuckie and David Guetta, the exuberant French producer behind The Black Eyed Peas’ smash “I Gotta Feeling” who recently collaborated with Akon on “Sexy …”
“Actually that’s what excited me more about her [Gaga] because you’ve got some straight hardcore hip-hop guys actually moving into the dance realm,” Akon said. “And that’s shocking. When you’ve got someone like Dr. Dre about to do a dance record … that’s crazy.” The singer refused to say anything else about his collaboration with Dr. Dre, but he revealed that “it actually sounds great. He played it for me. I was shocked. So I was like ‘Wow, that’s dope. When the world hears this, they might go crazy.’ … When you’ve got the two worlds mixed together, clashing, it’s going to be a monster.”
However, if you got excited, you’ll have to wait a little longer, as his album is supposed to hit music stores sometime later this year, according to The Daily Herald.

ABBA WORLD Premieres in London

There’s no chance of having too much ABBA. Not now, not ever, even if you’re not an ABBA fan. So, that’s why ABBAWORLD has been created. A new museum-cum-theme park in London with enough music, mementoes and memory-lane appeal, a place of pilgrimage to match the Elvis shrine of Graceland or Liverpool’s Beatles Story, has opened its gates to the public. ABBA WORLD premiered on January 27, with a party staged at London’s Earl’s Court venue and attended by Anni-Frid “Frida” Lyngstad and Björn Ulvaeus, one half of the legendary Swedish pop group.

Lucian Grainge, Universal Music Group International chairman and CEO, presented the duo with a plaque commemorating 375 million record sales worldwide. Then, Lyngstad expressed her delight with the ABBA WORLD show: “We’ve already been through the exhibition and I must say I’m so proud of the team that has worked here and also to be part of what is happening here tonight. We have been on a journey again, in a way.”
The exhibition presents the band’s story in 25 rooms spread over 30,000 square feet (2,800 sq. meters). Glass cases contain costumes in silk, satin and spandex. One corner holds the helicopter pictured on the cover of the 1976 album “Arrival” and visitors can see recreations of Polar Studios, where the band recorded, and the seaside cabin near Stockholm where Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson composed the band’s hits. There’s an audio guide of ABBA’s story narrated by Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard, one of the stars of the film version of “Mamma Mia!”, and a gift shop where visitors can buy Abba T-shirts, teddy bears, jigsaw puzzles, figurines and CDs.

ABBAWORLD’s Swedish organizers said that the exhibition is “a place for total interaction” with the band. The exhibition has holographic video technology that allows visitors to dance and sing alongside an animated ABBA. “It started with, ‘How do we give the visitor a big hug in each room?’” said Magnus Danielsson, president of Touring Exhibitions, the company behind ABBAWORLD. “This is going to be more like going to ‘Mamma Mia!’ than going to an exhibition. We want people to sing and dance.” And indeed, there the music satisfies even the most fervent ABBA fan, with songs from “Dancing Queen” and the melancholic “Knowing Me, Knowing You” to the tearing “The Winner Takes It All”.
The exhibition remains at London’s Earl’s Court venue until Mar. 28. The show is then expected to tour internationally although details have not been announced yet.

Ke$ha and Drake joined the huge list of performers for The Bamboozle Festival roster.
The Bamboozle Festival, which evolved out of the Skate and Surf Festival, is one of the biggest two-day rock festivals each year, held in New Jersey, where new bands compete for spots. And in 2010, The Bamboozle festival will take place under the shadow of the new Meadowlands Stadium, on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2. The fest will be headlined by huge names: Paramore, Weezer, Drake and Ke$ha! Paramour is set to headline the May 1 show, Drake will be performing right before Paramore on May 1 and Ke$ha on both May 1 and 2.

A couple of weeks ago 33 hints were posted all over the internet, giving clues as to which bands will be performing in May. Now it is certain which bands are scheduled to perform. The list is very long and includes Mike Posner, Angels & Airwaves, Emmure, Girl Talk, Hanson, Hey Monday, I See Stars, Mutemath, Steel Train, Matt & Kim, OK Go and Say Anything and many more. Others recently announced confirmed acts include 88 Keys, Wale, Sean Price and Wiz Khalifa, 100 Monkeys, Bobby Long, Bullet For My Valentine, Escape The Fate, Reliant K, The Bled, Motion City Soundtrack, Eye Alaska, Minus the Bear, The Pretty Reckless and Winston Audio.
