I love this article which talks about how the Dixie Chicks are still pariahs to Country Music radio.
It’s my opinion that Country Radio programmers are a bunch of douche bags and are totally two-faced with their handling of the Dixie Chicks.
For a little background info I grew up listening to a lot of old school country. Hank Williams Sr, Charlie Pride, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn etc. etc. I was also very much into the “new” country of the 90’s.
Nashville is well known to be an incestuous, control freak culture. They have always hated outsiders. I find it rather funny that they seem to have embraced American Idol winner Carry Underwood.
So back to my rant about Country Radio. They are total asshats for banning the Dixie Chicks from their program lists. Being rebels and outspoken are some of the traits that many country artists like to boast about. It’s a good thing. Many country fans like to think of ourselves as rebels and hell raisers as well.
“Country broadcasters said Monday that the group’s five Grammys show how out of touch the Recording Academy is from the average country fan.”
Sorry but it’s the programmers who are out of touch with the fans. Taking the Long Way was the ninth best-selling album in the United States. I think the fans have spoken. Country Music programmers are spineless jellyfish who just receive their highly researched playlists from their ClearChannel headquarters.
After the Chicks success at the Grammy’s it’s Country Radio and the CMA that are looking pretty stupid.
