Fans can now hear another new song from Chris Brown, premiered today, October 22. Pretty odd, ha? Coincidence or not, releasing the song a day after the outing of Rihanna’s new single “Russian Roulette” fueled the rumor mills. This means that Chris will battle against his ex-girlfriend for having music fans’ most requests on radios and that they will also compete for the highest rank on Billboard Hot 100.
A music video in companion to the song has been filmed with Cassie set to make cameo but unfortunately, no word on premiere date for the video yet.
The new track “Crawl“, which is set to be Brown’s second single off his forthcoming album Graffitti (due in stores and at online retailers on December 15), is a bass-heavy ballad that seems to reflect his love for ex-girlfriend and victim of his February domestic assault. The lyrics are truthful, as Brown begs for a second chance and reveals that he’s willing to “crawl” his way to an eventual rapprochement: “So we’ll crawl, until we can walk again,” Brown sings on the chorus. “Then we’ll run, until we’re strong enough to jump/ Then we’ll fly, until there is no wind/ So let’s crawl, crawl, crawl, back to love.” In his new track, Chris Brown accepts the blame for a relationship gone awry and asks his unnamed lover for a second chance: “Everybody see it’s you / well, I never want to lose that view/ I’m the one that one that lost the view/ Everybody says were’ through/ I hope you haven’t said it too”.
But while Brown leans towards regrets, apologies and melancholy, Rihanna seems to be taking a darker and angrier approach with “Russian Roulette”: “You can see my heart beating, you can see it through my chest/ I’m terrified, but I’m not leaving/ I know that I must pass this test,” Rihanna sings, “So just pull the trigger.” Let’s hope these lyrics are not dedicated to her ex-boyfriend…
The R&B singer also visited radio personality Angie Martinez on New York’s Hot 97 and besides playing the song for the first time at the radio station, he also sat down and chat with Angie. One of the topics that they’ve talked about was Rihanna’s new single. When asked whether it’s weird for him to listen to his ex-girlfriend’s song on radios, especially after what happened between them back in February, he said, “No, not at all. I heard it all the time before, and I hear it all the time now.”
Moreover, the 20-year-old singer also mentioned about his upcoming Fan Appreciation tour: “If they [people] wanna know what I’m doing. I’m doing tour,” he said. “November 14. That’s the first date, I think it’s in Houston and the last day is in New York. I can’t wait for that.”
