Christina Aguilera performed her Back to Basics Tour in the UK on January 12th. The version shown on TV only has 9 songs but the DVD version has 21.
What about the states ?!

It is being widely reported that Quiet Riot Singer Kevin Dubrow has died. The cause of death is unknown at this time.
I was an early fan of 1983’s Metal Health and the title song. Of course their best known hot from the album was “Cum on Feel the Noize”, a remake of a Slade song. Kevin hated the song. It’s always a bit of irony when a song defines band that is always indicitive of the true nature of the band (think “Mmore Than Words” by Extreme).
Kevin was loud, cocky and a bit obnoxious, all of the traits a good front man should have. One thing for sure he had a great voice.
RIP

80’s band Squeeze is on a summer tour. US Dates have been announced through August. They seem to be playing in “intimate” theaters.
Here is the current lineup which includes Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford.

According to a story on Yahoo this tour is all about the money. There are no plans for a new album. I have a lot of fond memories of cranking “Pulling Mussels,” “Black Coffee in Bed”, and “Tempted” from the “Singles 45’s and Under” CD during the summers in the early 80’s. However I just don’t have the desire to tap my heels along with middle aged yuppies wearing designer eyewear at a Squeeze concert.
Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” seems to enjoy a resurgence every few months. It has been the theme song for the Chicago WHite Sox, featured on Laguna Beach and most recently on the final episode of the Sopranos. “Open Arms” and “Faithfully” were probably more popular in Journey’s heyday but Don’t Stop Believing seems to have the staying power.
For your enjoyment here is the video and lyrics. Check out Neil Schon’s dorky pants !
Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south detroit
He took the midnight train goin anywhere
A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
(chorus)
Dont stop believin
Hold on to the feelin
Streetlight people
The number one selling single on iTunes is Umbrella by Rihanna . Here is the Umbrella video.

Umbrella Lyrics
[Intro: Jay-Z]
Ahuh Ahuh (Yea Rihanna)
Ahuh Ahuh (Good girl gone bad)
Ahuh Ahuh (Take three… Action)
Ahuh Ahuh
No clouds in my storms
Let it rain, I hydroplane in the bank
Coming down with the Dow Jones
When the clouds come we gone, we Rocafella
She fly higher than weather
And G5’s are better, You know me,
an anticipation, for precipitation. Stacked chips for the rainy day
Jay, Rain Man is back with little Ms. Sunshine
Rihanna where you at?
[Rihanna]
You have my heart
And we’ll never be worlds apart
May be in magazines
But you’ll still be my star
Baby cause in the dark
You can’t see shiny cars
And that’s when you need me there
With you I’ll always share
Because
[Chorus]
When the sun shines, we’ll shine together
Told you I’ll be here forever
Said I’ll always be a friend
Took an oath I’ma stick it out till the end
Now that it’s raining more than ever
Know that we’ll still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella
You can stand under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh eh eh eh)
These fancy things, will never come in between
You’re part of my entity, here for Infinity
When the war has took it’s part
When the world has dealt it’s cards
If the hand is hard, together we’ll mend your heart

Come into me
There’s no distance in between our love
So go on and let the rain pour
I’ll be all you need and more
Because

When the sun shines, we’ll shine together
Told you I’ll be here forever

Rage Against The Machine has a new web site ratm82407.com which shows two different countdown times. the forst is currently at 4 day and the other is at 78 days. Fans are speculating these dates may be related to announcement related to a new album and/or tour. Time will tell.

I watched VH1’s Rock Honors. Overall I wasn’t as impressed with this years lineup as last years. I could have done without Genesis and I really wasn’t into seeing ZZ Top. I used to be a pretty big ZZ Top fan up until the whole Eliminator thing.
Anyways the biggest surprise of the night was Alice In Chains and Gretchen Wilson doing Barracuda. I expected Alice In Chains to kill but I was really surprised at how well Gretchen did the vocals. She actually has some pretty impressive vocal chops and she did a great job. Best song of the night.

Yahoo posted this story about Chris Cornell quitting Audioslave.
What caught my eye is that Tom Morello and company are getting together with Zack de la Rocha to reunite Rage Against The Machine. They will play their first show in April. That’s pretty cool. I used to love Rage.

I love this article which talks about how the Dixie Chicks are still pariahs to Country Music radio.
It’s my opinion that Country Radio programmers are a bunch of douche bags and are totally two-faced with their handling of the Dixie Chicks.
For a little background info I grew up listening to a lot of old school country. Hank Williams Sr, Charlie Pride, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn etc. etc. I was also very much into the “new” country of the 90’s.
Nashville is well known to be an incestuous, control freak culture. They have always hated outsiders. I find it rather funny that they seem to have embraced American Idol winner Carry Underwood.
So back to my rant about Country Radio. They are total asshats for banning the Dixie Chicks from their program lists. Being rebels and outspoken are some of the traits that many country artists like to boast about. It’s a good thing. Many country fans like to think of ourselves as rebels and hell raisers as well.
“Country broadcasters said Monday that the group’s five Grammys show how out of touch the Recording Academy is from the average country fan.”
Sorry but it’s the programmers who are out of touch with the fans. Taking the Long Way was the ninth best-selling album in the United States. I think the fans have spoken. Country Music programmers are spineless jellyfish who just receive their highly researched playlists from their ClearChannel headquarters.
After the Chicks success at the Grammy’s it’s Country Radio and the CMA that are looking pretty stupid.
