After making a major comeback with her album Circus and massive tour, Britney Spears decided to do other things as well, not just music. The singer justifies the brake she took in her musical career by creating a new clothing and accessories line especially for schoolgirls. Spears has been the face of the brand for a while now, for almost three years, but this is the first time she’s stepped behind the camera for a new role: to design her own looks. The clothing line created in collaboration with Iconix Brand Group is called Britney for Candie’s and American girls can choose and buy what they want by simply visiting KOHL shops as the line has hit the shelves yesterday, July 1. The collection ranges from $14.00-$78.00.
“Designing was really fun and for me it was a new way of expressing my creativity and I really wanted to do something special for my fans and for me as well,” Britney said according to Reuters. The pop diva also spoke to InStyle.com about the inspiration for her new line, saying, 2I used a lot of studs and lace, because I wanted to make the clothes cool and edgy yet girly…My personal style is mix of comfortable and flirty.”
In designing the line, the 28-year-old singer searched for inspiration in her favorite movies and songs. The line includes casual clothes for day use and elegant clothes for night use, from jeans to black dresses, all completed with a line of accessories. Inspired by the beat from her hit single “Piece of Me” from 2007’s “Blackout” album, Spears introduced in her line some special pieces, such as a shiny black trench, fold-over booties, sparkly leggings and super low-rise jeans straight out of 2000. “I love the black trench coat,” Britney said. “You can wear it over your outfit or as a dress. There’s also an amazing studded skirt that’s perfect for going out.”
“I wanted to make the clothes cool and edgy yet girly,” the pop icon added. “I also love jeans, so I had to make sure there were some great pairs in the collection.” Britney Spears also said that because her “personal style is mix of comfortable and flirty, I love cute little dresses but I also love comfy sweaters and jeans.”
The “Britney for Candie’s” limited edition collection will be supported with a national marketing campaign including a television commercial, print ad, outdoor, online as well as being integrated into Kohl’s back-to-school marketing initiatives. The marketing campaign shows the diva wearing her collection along with her personal handwritten notes such as, “You’ll love these jeans!” and “Love this skirt for dancing…fun & flirty.”
