Bono was appointed to be an honorary British Knight in recognition of his services to the music industry and for his humanitarian work.

Apparently only British Citizens can become “real” knights. Honorary knighthoods are awarded to non-British folk. Also he can not be called “Sir”.

It’s nice to see a singer that really believes in the subjects he sings about. He has leveraged his celebrity status to meet with world leaders and called to their attention the issues he believes in.
