Beastie Boys’ Adam “MCA” Yauch first alerted fans to his condition in a July 20 video he and bandmate Adam Horowitz posted on the band’s website. Doctors found a cancerous lymph node three weeks ago in Yauch’s left parotid (salivary) gland in his neck. Fortunately, they caught it early and since the tumor hasn’t metastasized, it’s considered highly treatable.

And now, he wants everyone to know that he is recovering. He even thanked his fans and fellow rock stars for all the support and he let fans know via e-mail that he is at home recovering from a surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his throat, reported Pitchfork.
According to Rolling Stone, he also wrote: “So i’m about a week and a half out of surgery now and rapidly recovering from it … my neck and jaw are still pretty stiff from the surgery, but it gets better everyday … but no sooner am i on the mend from this first torture than are they lining up the next one. The next line of treatment will be radiation. That involves blasting you with some kind of beam for a few minutes a day, 5 days a week, for about 7 weeks. That will start in a few weeks…”
The 44-year-old performer, who says he started noticing the lump in his throat a few months ago, also said that he has his mind on music, despite his medical setback and that he saw all of the Beastie Boys tributes at the musical festival All Points West, including Jay-Z’s cover of “No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn” and a “Get Well MCA” arm band that Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O sported. The Beasties were supposed to headline one of the festival’s three nights but were forced pull out because of Yauch’s condition. As Rock Daily reported, their new album, “Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 1″ was originally scheduled for a Sept. 15 release, but has since been pushed back for the same reason.
“I do think that all of the well wishes have contributed to the fact that my treatment and recovery are going well,” Yauch concludes. “Much love back at all of you!”
