At only 23 years old, Ashley Tisdale has already achieved a level of success most stars could only dream of in an entire career. Tisdale’s work includes the three monster High School Musical films, a starring role in the upcoming summer flick Aliens in the Attic, and her second solo album, Guilty Pleasure, which hits stores next month, on June 16.
With an edgy, guitar-driven pop-rock sound, Guilty Pleasure is a creative and mature leap forward for this appealing young singer and songwriter, who launched a career as a solo artist with her gold-certified Top 5 rhythmic-pop debut Headstrong in 2007. “Headstrong was a big learning experience, as it was my first album,” Tisdale said. “This time I went in knowing exactly what I wanted to do and the message I wanted to put out there, which is that I’m 23 and I’m not just the cute, bubbly blonde girl you know from Disney. I have a tougher side and I love rock music, which are things people probably don’t know about me. On each album you get to share with the world who you are as a person, and I wanted my fans to see another side to me. This album really reflects who I am at this point in my life.”
The brunette beauty has spoken about the influences on the record in an interview with the latest issue of OK! Magazine. About her Guilty Pleasure, Ashley reveals: “It’s edgier and more mature… There’s a lot of breakup songs from stuff I experienced.” The most personal, a ballad titled “What If,” penned with American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, “is about when you’re in a relationship and you say ‘If I really needed you, would you actually be there?’ ”
Elsewhere in the interview, Ashley admits that she spends much of her time with fellow Disney stars Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens. “It’s important to have girlfriends, because guys tend to come and go. I hang out with Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens a lot and watch chick flicks and I listen to music like Pink’s ‘So What’ and Britney Spears’ ‘Out From Under.’ That helps me move on faster.” She adds about the Hannah Montana star: “Miley’s a big sweetheart. She’s stayed true to herself and hasn’t changed for how huge she is. She’s always there to listen.”
The actress and singer also revealed the qualities she looks for in a potential lover:
“I’m a big romantic, so I love guys who are romantic too. I think it’s important to be with someone that you can be yourself around. I need a guy that I can hang out with in sweats and no makeup and still feel comfortable and beautiful. Someone who’s trustworthy.”
Moreover, Ashley spoke about her dream co-stars: “I’m a big fan of Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn and Cameron Diaz. They’re strong, independent women who don’t hold back. I’d love to work with them.”
